The untapped potential of narrative as a tool in aviation mental health and certification

This commentary argues that the aviation industry faces significant mental health challenges among pilots which negatively affect both individual wellbeing and operational safety. The authors suggest using narrative storytelling as a powerful tool to promote mental wellness behaviours and to correct misinformation regarding aeromedical certification and mental health reporting. By using narrative, the commentary suggests aviators can reduce stigma, encourage early help-seeking, and improve transparency around certification pathways related to mental health.
