Citation: Hoffman W, Bjerke E, Tvaryanas A. Breaking the Pilot Healthcare Barrier. Aerospace Medicine and Human Performance. 2022;93(8):649-650.

This paper discusses a phenomenon where pilots are hesitant to seek medical care due to concerns that changes in the status of their health may harm their ability to maintain their medical licence to fly. The authors note that this issue is widley recognized amongst pilots (and some physicians) but has not been well researched in medical literature. The paper propses a formal definition for this barrier to health and aims to promote future research and targeted interventions to address health hesitancy amongst pilots.
